Are you considering undergoing a BOTOX® treatment? Whether you only want one BOTOX treatment or many, it is crucial for you to understand the process and what to do after receiving your treatment. While your medical professional will provide you with aftercare instructions, learning some other beneficial tips will not only speed up your recovery, but it can help the effects of the procedure last longer.
Why undergo BOTOX treatments?
People who wish to enhance specific features of their face can find the changes they are searching for in BOTOX. Many people are choosing to undergo this type of treatment nowadays for the multitude of benefits it can offer.
A few of the more common reasons include getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles in the facial area, eliminating or minimizing the pain that comes with migraines, minimizing the effects of excessive sweating aka hyperhidrosis, treating eye conditions like blurred vision and addressing bladder control problems.
After undergoing BOTOX treatment
The following is a list of five great tips that everyone should follow after undergoing medical treatment for BOTOX.
1. Rest
After a patient has received their BOTOX injections, resting for the remainder of the day is recommended. While they can move around or even go for a short walk, taking it easy for a day or two after receiving treatment assists with the overall healing process.
2. Keep the head elevated
Keeping the head elevated for at least the first 4 hours after undergoing a BOTOX treatment is necessary to help reduce swelling. Keeping the head elevated for a more extended period of time is recommended, as this helps to speed up the recovery process.
3. Apply ice
Applying ice helps to minimize swelling as well as any irritation that is present. Placing an ice pack in a clean cloth to rest against the treated area helps to reduce the chance of bacterial infection and should be done for about 10 minutes every hour for the first 12 hours.
4. Avoid touching the treated areas
Do not touch, pick at, rub or place any pressure in or around the areas of the BOTOX injection. The last thing a patient wants to happen is for the BOTOX to accidentally spread to another area, as this reduces its ability to do the job it is supposed to do. Touching the area can also lead to swelling, potentially causing the injection site to become inflamed.
5. Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages
Do not drink alcoholic beverages for at least 48 hours after receiving a BOTOX injection. Alcohol makes the blood thinner, which increases a patients chance of bruising.
