Learn About Dental Implants for Seniors

If you are of retirement age and are looking to replace your teeth in a secure and durable fashion, we encourage you to visit our office for dental implants. It is a misconception that seniors are satisfied with changes to their physical health or appearance. Just because you have gotten older doesn't mean that you should have to look different than you always have or that you should have to change how you live your life. This includes making changes to your diet or restricting your activities because of your tooth loss. You shouldn't have to do that, and thanks to dental implants you don't have to. For this reason, if you are unsatisfied with your current set of dentures or with the idea of getting dentures for the first time, you should understand that you don't have to settle for a change that you don't want. Instead, you should explore your options and the best way do so is by scheduling an appointment with our dentist office.

Why Dental Implants are Better Than Dentures

When it comes to replacing your teeth you have several options. Among the most common and well-known are partial dentures and dentures. Partial dentures are secured in place using wires and clasps. For a complete set of dentures, the gum base is secured around your gums. In both scenarios, you have to remove your dentures at night for cleaning and soaking. Since the solution is removable it leads to levels of insecurity when eating, speaking, or engaging in activities like running a race. The challenge is that these insecurities, whether real or imagined, can then negatively impact how people live their lives. For example, many denture wearers are hesitant to meet their friends for lunch or dinner because they are concerned that they will be unable to enjoy the food or that their prosthetic may slip out of place. With dental implants, you have none of these concerns.

The reason dental implants are so much more secure is because they are surgically placed. In this procedure, we implant a small titanium post and secure it to your jawbone. The body reacts to titanium in an incredibly unique manner. It treats titanium the same way that it would natural matter so when the titanium is secured to your jawbone the body begins to deposit bone around the actual post. This results in a process called osseointegration. Your dental implant essentially becomes part of your body and in so doing replaces your lost root system. It takes a couple months for this process to completely take place but once it has, we can secure a new tooth to an abutment that is attached to your implant. Once the process is complete your new tooth will look like a natural one and it will behave like a natural one.

You Don't Have to Compromise

For seniors that want to replace their teeth in a way that looks and feels as amazing as their natural teeth always have there truly is no comparison to dental implants. Remember that just because you're getting older doesn't mean you have to compromise. We can help you to enjoy excellent oral health and a fully functioning beautiful smile regardless of how old you are.
