Patients Who Visit Our Office for Laser Skin Resurfacing

It is possible to improve the appearance of the skin with laser skin resurfacing. This is a modern procedure that is minimally invasive. It does not require surgery but is done in our office. Still, the results can be incredibly dramatic for people who do not like their appearance because of how their skin looks or feels.

Who visits our office for laser skin resurfacing?

We have found that it helps for people to know what type of patients visit us for this particular procedure. People that visit us for skin resurfacing typically do not like the tone, texture or appearance of the skin around their face or neck. These patients include:

  • Retirees wanting to take a few years off of their appearance
  • Younger people who spend a lot of time in the sun and have damaged their skin as a result
  • Moms who feel like their face is looking significantly older after having children
  • Men and women who feel like their aging face is putting them at a competitive disadvantage socially or at work
  • Those who have suffered from acne that left scars
  • People with sunspots
  • Anyone with loose or sagging skin that wants it to be more firm without having a facelift

Essentially, this procedure can be beneficial for nearly anyone who wants to improve the appearance of their skin.

Laser skin resurfacing versus a facelift

This procedure is ideal for anyone who wants to improve the appearance of the skin but is hesitant to have an actual facelift. In many cases, laser surgery is unnecessary because a laser procedure can produce enough results to see significant improvements.

A laser can eliminate the surface skin where most of the damage resides. Wrinkles, scars and sunspots on the surface of the skin will no longer be apparent once that top layer has been removed. Underneath is fresh new skin that will look fantastic once it is exposed.

The laser procedure can also stimulate the production of elastin and collagen which can be used to help firm and tighten the skin naturally. Everyone has more elastin and collagen when they are younger and this contributes to a youthful appearance. The lack of it can contribute to an aged appearance thanks to loose and sagging skin.

It is important to note, however, that a laser procedure can only go so far. If the skin is sagging significantly, a facelift is still going to be necessary.

There are big differences between the two procedures and how they are performed. For example, laser procedures are completed in our office and there is limited trauma to the skin or face. With a facelift, a patient undergoes actual surgery, is put to sleep and will have a longer recovery process. Naturally, a facelift is also going to be more expensive because there is far more involved with the actual procedure.

For these reasons, we often recommend starting with a laser skin resurfacing procedure to see if the results are enough to restore a patient's confidence and pleasure with their parents. If it is, it will save a significant amount of time and money. If not, scheduling a facelift in the future would not be an issue.

It is also important to note that some of our patients choose to have a laser procedure done as a way to put off having a facelift for a few more years.
