Reasons to Speak with a Facial Surgeon Specialist

A facial surgeon specialist treats a variety of conditions and defects. This includes problems with the jaw, face, neck and also the hard and soft tissues inside of the mouth. Essentially, any conditions related to the jaw, face, and neck can be treated by oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Cosmetic surgery

A facial surgeon specialist can perform various cosmetic procedures such as a brow lift, rhinoplasty, septoplasty, chin augmentation and cheek augmentation, to name a few.

Extractions

We perform surgical extractions on a regular basis to remove impacted wisdom teeth or teeth that have become damaged or infected and need to be removed but cannot be using traditional means.

Dental implants

One of the more common procedures that we perform is to replace missing teeth using dental implants. Sometimes, prior to placing the implant, we need to insert additional bone to augment the existing jawbone and make it stronger. This is referred to as a sinus lift. Once done, the jaw will be strong enough to support dental implants and they can be placed accordingly.

For this procedure, we insert a small titanium rod into the jawbone underneath the surface of the gums. Due to the process of osseointegration, the implant will fuse with the jawbone and become as strong and sturdy as a natural root. This way, when we attach the new tooth (crown), it will have the same functionality as a traditional tooth.

Asymmetry

We sometimes see patients who need oral surgery because their jaw is seriously out of alignment. For example, someone with an overbite could want jaw surgery in order to improve the shape and appearance of their face. This is sometimes done in conjunction with treatment provided by an orthodontist.

An orthodontist will begin to straighten teeth and then midway through the process have a patient come in for jaw surgery to complete their orthodontic work and correctly position their jaw at the same time.

Trauma or reconstruction

We treat patients who have been in an accident or who have become injured and need to have repairs made to their face, jaw or neck as a result. This type of trauma generally requires surgery. Due to our various methods, we can reconstruct the functionality and appearance of the face and jaw.

TMJ disorders

Those who suffer from TMJ may find it difficult to eat, speak clearly or even open their mouth all the way. This condition can be rather alarming and treatment often requires oral surgery.

We offer a variety of procedures because our practice is so diverse. We help patients that want to improve their appearance through facial cosmetic surgery, those who need to correct their bite for cosmetic or comfort reasons, people who need to have facial reconstruction completed and even those who want to replace missing teeth.
